The opening of the year found the syndicalists exceptionally active. Our little monthly sheet had given place to a monthly paper called The Syndicalist. I was much occupied in platform work advocating militant trade unionism, and constantly urging the workers to cease relying upon parliament and to resort to direct action. Six months before this there had appeared an Open Letter to British Soldiers. This had been printed in The Irish Worker. It was not signed, but had been written by a comrade in the building trade in Liverpool. In the January number the first of The Syndicalist the letter was reprinted without comment. Indeed, no special importance was attached to it, but a railwayman, Fred Crowsley, who read it and was impressed with its educational value, decided to have copies printed as a leaflet at his own expense.
When potato plants bloom, they send up five-lobed flowers that spangle fields like fat purple stars. By some accounts, Marie Antoinette liked the blossoms so much that she put them in her hair. Harvey Weinstein responded to a rape accuser’s comments that his genitalia was ‘deformed’ and resembles a vagina by sarcastically telling reporters that the description was perfect. The alleged revelations about Weinstein’s private parts were made by former aspiring actress Jessica Mann, who took the stand in a Manhattan Supreme Courtroom, on Friday as part of the ongoing testimonies against the year-old disgraced film producer. As Weinstein shuffled out of the courtroom while flanked by a team of lawyers, a reporter asked: ‘Mr.
Mann, whose rape allegations led to charges being brought against Harvey Weinstein, sobbed on the witness stand as she told jurors that she was once forced to strip off her clothing during an alleged rape in a New York hotel room in March After the alleged rape, Mann said she regained consciousness to find Weinstein’s penis in her mouth and ‘choked’ on a ‘fluid’ when he climaxed. Prosecutors hammered home the most serious charges in a case that stems from the allegations of just two of the scores of women who have accused Weinstein of violating them.
A conviction could put him behind bars for the rest of his life. Meanwhile, Weinstein’s lawyers plan to seize on Mann’s complicated history with the disgraced film producer, including continued interactions and warm emails she sent him, as they try to raise doubts about her credibility. Mann’s often sexually explicit testimony revealed how the producer allegedly had her massage his blackhead-covered back in a hotel room, how she faked an orgasm and falsely praised his prowess after he forcibly performed oral sex on her.
She broke down in tears at the first question of where she was from, but then composed herself and spoke with a clear voice.
